Hugh Evans has been chosen by the Conservatives to contest the upcoming Elmbridge Borough Council by-election in Long Ditton.
A vacancy has arisen due to the resignation of a sitting Liberal Democrat councillor and Hugh has been selected to campaign for the seat following a strong performance in May, where he finished a very close second (just 49 votes shy of victory).
Hugh has lived in the area virtually all his life and was educated at Hinchley Wood School before going on to university. He works for the NHS as an administrator and is married to Catherine, who works in International Development.
Whomever is elected at the by-election on Thursday July 23rd will represent Long Ditton at Elmbridge Borough Council for until May 2016 when fresh elections will be held on new ward boundaries.
Hugh will be setting out his priorities and pledges shortly but has promised an energetic campaign focused on important local issues.
He said: "It was a pleasure to meet so many residents on the doorsteps during the recent campaign and to have the opportunity to speak up for your concerns and aspirations. We now have an unusual situation of having another election so soon. I am looking forward to the campaign and if elected I am ready to with an energetic programme of local action for the next 10 months."
