David Lewis - let's protect the green belt

Voters in Oxshott & Stoke D’Abernon are being urged to go out and vote for David Lewis on Thursday to keep the Elmbridge Council Conservative.

A by-election was triggered by the resignation of James Vickers for personal reasons - after 26 years on the council.
Following the Borough-wide elections in May, Conservatives had a net gain of three seats which resulted in an evenly balanced council. We had 24 seats and the combined Liberal Democrat/Resident Association coalition also had 24 seats. Consequently, the Conservatives formed the Administration.

David Lewis, who has lived in Stoke d'Abernon for 30 years, and is a retired executive, said: "The outcome of this by-election will determine which party runs Elmbridge. If we retain the seat, it will be Conservatives. If the Lib Dems were to win it, it would be a return to the shambolic coalition of the Liberal Democrats and Resident Associations.

"The Liberal Democrats and the Resident Associations ran Elmbridge between 2016-2018. During this time they: Consulted on building thousands of houses on Green Belt land including Knowle Hill in Stoke d’Abernon and Oxshott; Increased their councillor allowances by over 12%; Introduced a “tennis tax” for using the public, Council owned, tennis courts; Presided over the shambolic introduction  of the new waste bin contract   which resulted in thousands of missed collections last summer.

"In the short time since May that the we have been back in control at Elmbridge, we have: Pledged to protect the Green Belt; committed to reversing the “tennis tax; Worked with Surrey County Council to agree where an additional £20 million funding for road repairs should be spent.

"I firmly believe that we can win in Oxshott & Stoke d’Abernon, providing all of our members and supporters use their vote. I am urging supporters to take a personal challenge to encourage family, friends and neighbours to vote. I thank you for your support."

David and his team are delivering the “Eve of Poll” leaflet (below) to every house. Polling day is Thursday 12th July 2018 from 7am until 10pm and stations will be at the Oxshott Village Centre and Stoke d’Abernon Village Hall.
