The Esher & Walton Conservative Women’s Organisation is delighted to host its ‘Post Olympic Lunch’.
On Friday 28th September we will be having an International Buffet to toast the success of London 2012. Guests will hear from 2 inspiring women who have not only both competed for Team GB but have also played a crucial role in the organisation and execution of this Olympic Games.
Alex Kelham (nee Bennett) is the Brand Protection Lawyer for the 2012 Olympics.
Alex swam for Great Britain in the 1990’s and won 3 Commonwealth medals at the 1994 Victoria Games. In 1996 Alex was involved in an horrific car crash which ruined her Olympic Aspirations and almost took her life. However after seven weeks in hospital and three months in a wheel chair Alex made her recovery and eventually could swim again competitively but sadly not for the Olympics. Alex took a law
degree at Nottingham University and having worked as a sports lawyer for Farrers, was selected as Brand Protection Lawyer of The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and The Paralympic Games Ltd (LOCOG). Alex established the brand protection team which was responsible for ensuring the London 2012 brand was fully protected and also advised on the content of the London Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Act 2006, ensuring it’s provisions were passed by Parliament.
Maria Porter (nee Blower) competed in 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games cycling for Team GB and gained 6th place in the Women’s Road Race in 88 cycling 70 miles.
Maria has four national titles. Maria rode the Women’s Tour de France Giro d’Italia and four World Championships and the Commonwealth Games. Maria consulted on the 2012 Olympic Cycle Race course and came up with the idea for the cyclists to ride through Box Hill and is heavily involved in the Legacy event next August. We are very much looking forward to hearing from Maria & Alex and delighted to get an
inside view to the most successful Olympics in recent times.
We hope you will be able to join us for this event and also have the opportunity to hold the Olympic Torch which is making a special visit to Oxshott for this occasion!
