Local MP Dominic Raab has responded to an open letter from the Liberal Democrats, which attempts to link local Conservatives to the appeal by the Jockey Club to build homes on greenbelt land at Sandown Park. The facts of the matter prove the opposite - all our councillors voted against granting planning permission, and our MP has written in support of Elmbridge's democratic decision and against the appeal. Another desperate attempt by the Lib Dems to smear their opponents falls flat.

We can't help thinking that this move by the Lib Dems is an attempt to distract from their own internal party difficulties. Recently they ousted their leader Cllr Andrew Davis, who promptly left the Lib Dem group on Elmbridge Council along with his two fellow ward councillors to sit as independents. Clearly, all is not well in the Lib Dem camp.
