The by-election in Oxshott and Stoke d'Abernon has been won by Conservative candidate David Lewis.
David, who has lived in the ward for 30 years with his wife Mary, a Conservative County Councillor, received an impressive 72% of the vote, polling 1,297 - nearly three times as much as his Liberal Democrat challenger, on 463 votes.
The election, on Thursday 12 July, was held to find a successor to James Vickers, the local Conservative councillor of 26 years, who stepped down for personal reasons.
David said: "I am absolutely delighted by the result and I am looking forward to representing ALL residents in Oxshott, Stoke d’Abernon and Cobham Fairmile, working closely with my fellow ward councillors, Andrew Burley and Oliver Chappell. I will focus on delivering my manifesto's six point plan: protecting the Green belt, speaking up for residents on issues such as planning whilst ensuring decisions are fair and policy compliant. I want to see the Blundel Lane Railway Bridge improved and tackle traffic issues on the A244 and A245 - there is a lot to do and I can't wait to get started."
As a retired executive and a former Chairman of the Esher & Walton constituency association, David will bring considerable experience to the role of councillor and will be a great addition to the Conservative team.
Overall it is has been a successful year for the Conservatives in Elmbridge. In May we won 10 of the 16 seats, including 4 from residents association parties, allowing us to regain control of the council.
