Consultation on the proposal to introduce four new taxi ranks commenced on August 21, and submissions can be made until 19 September, 2014.
The new ranks have been proposed to widen the distribution of taxis giving residents and visitors greater access to transport services and greater choice between the use of taxis and privately booked minicabs. The new ranks will operate seven days a week, within the hours specified below:
1) Esher High Street – South side slip road adjacent to properties 77-81,18:00 to 03:00hrs for 3 vehicles
2) Weybridge, Queens Road – North side adjacent to properties 115-127, 22:00-03:00hrs for 5 vehicles
3) Walton-on-Thames, Mayfield Road - South side opposite train station, 24:00hrs for 3 vehicles
4) Weybridge High Street – South side adjacent to Boots Opticians 18:00-03:00 for 3 vehicles
Conservative councillor Licensing Committee chairman, Ian Donaldson said the new areas identified in the consultation would benefit both the service users and drivers within the borough. He added: "Taxis are already a valuable part of the borough’s transport system for commuters at both Walton and Weybridge stations. Additional taxi ranks in other areas will mean that more residents can benefit from the advantage of hiring a taxi instantly. They may also relieve pressure on existing ranks."
