Walton Conservatives held a Special General Meeting last night at the Conservative Club in Manor Road to select their candidates for the 2014 Elmbridge elections.
The four candidates selected were:
- Walton Ambleside – Cllr Andrew Kelly
- Walton Central – Malcolm Howard
- Walton North – Cllr Rachael Lake
- Walton South – Cllr Christine Elmer
In a contested selection, Walton resident Malcolm Howard was selected to fight Central, currently held by the Walton Society. As the local branch chairman, Andrew Kelly said “Malcolm will be a great candidate. Central has been without a Conservative Borough Councillor since 2012 and I know Malcolm will work extremely hard to provide the ward with a strong Conservative voice again, fighting Central’s corner at Elmbridge.” Malcolm said “I am delighted to have been selected as the local Conservative candidate and I look forward to meeting as many Walton Central residents as possible in the months ahead.”
On his own re-selection, Andrew said “I’m very pleased to be standing again next year – it’s been a privilege to have represented Ambleside residents for nearly four years now. Working with colleagues and residents we have achieved a great deal. My number one concern at the moment is doing all I possibly can to get the Lyon Road/Weylands application rejected once and for all.” Rachael said “I am thrilled to have been re-selected to stand for Walton North for a third term. Since I was elected to Surrey County Council in May I have appreciated how much can be achieved by both councils working together.”
Commenting on her own re-selection, Cabinet Member Christine Elmer said “It has been an honour to have represented Walton South for the last eight years. I very much hope that residents will put their faith in me once more for a further term.”
