Dominic Raab speaking in Parliament

Esher & Walton MP Dominic Raab has spoken of three challenges facing the Government and the country following the vote for Britain to leave the European Union.

In a post on his official website, the Conservative MP and Justice Minister, said: "I’m optimistic for Britain as never before, and I’m confident we have the resourcefulness and resolve to go from strength to strength."

He went on to list three immediate challenges, firstly that politicians should recognise that the referendum was a "direction from the British people" that would need to be delivered. Second, there would need to be stability and calm in the economy, and third that it should be acknowledged that 48% of votes (in excess of 16 million people) had voted to remain in the EU, and bridges would need to be build.

Dominic said: "The vote for independence opens the door to a world of brighter opportunities. But, we can take the time and exercise the care to make the right decisions for Britain. We need to proceed with resolve, but also humility and sensitivity, and work towards building a unity of purpose."

The MP also paid tribute to outgoing Prime Minister David Cameron, calling him "outstanding". Dominic is currently supporting Michael Gove in the race to be the next Conservative Party leader.
