Discovering pond life

Junior Rangers workshops focus on practical tasks designed for children keen to support the protection of wildlife. The activities provide a fun introduction to the local flora and fauna and help children discover more about their local environment.

Orienteering - Wednesday 6 August, 10am to 12 noon

A string orienteering course for the little ones and a mapped course to test older ones’ navigation skills. Meet in Horseshoe Clump car park, Portsmouth Road (opposite Blackhills), KT10 9JQ

Minibeast Hunt - Thursday 7 August, 10am to 11.30am

Come and see what creepy crawlies are lurking in the undergrowth on Littleworth Common. Meet on Littleworth Common, off Portsmouth Road (opposite Café Rouge), KT10 9AD

Junior Rangers - Pond dip - Thursday 13 August, 10am to 12 noon

Come and see what is lurking beneath the water in the pond on Old Common, Cobham. Meet by Old Common Pond, next to the A3 bridge on Old Common Road, Cobham, nearest postcode KT11 1BX

Give Nature a Helping Hand - Wednesday 21 August, 10am to 12 noon

Help the Countryside Team work on the commons, learn more about our local wildlife and make something to take home. Meet by Chequers Pond, West End Lane (pond on edge of the woods near the church), nearest postcode KT10 8LF

Councillor Mary Sheldon, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Cultural Services, said: "This summer, the Countryside Team has organised fun and exciting activities to do for everyone. Through Junior Rangers activities, children will build self-confidence and learn the importance of teamwork. They will learn new skills and contribute to safeguarding the environment. Their younger siblings will have fun chasing creepy crawlies, hunting bugs and discovering pond life. What better way to inspire the next generation of naturalists? Do come along and share some outdoor summer fun at your local countryside sites."
