All of us were shocked to see what happened in Walton high street this week. We have been campaigning for the Elmbridge Borough Council to better protect our local green spaces and plant more trees for many years, so this loss of trees was a great shame.
While it’s understandable that Elmbridge Borough Council approved and funded a project by the Surrey Highways Authority to improve road safety by upgrading a zebra crossing, the loss of two healthy trees and removal of two others that were dead or diseased, has rightly outraged local residents. Due to the swift actions of the County Councillor for Walton, Rachael Lake, the remaining trees were saved and will not be removed.
This is where we need your help by signing our petition: www.esherwalton.com/form/restore-walton-high-street-trees
By signing our petition today, we can make sure if the Liberal Democrats continue to run the council after the local elections, we can demonstrate residents want to see the trees restored. If Conservatives take control, we will be able to hit the ground running from day one in May to restore the trees in Walton high street and additional trees all the way up the high street. This should be an issue where there is cross party support.
Please sign today and show your support for a greener Elmbridge.
