Surrey manifesto

Conservatives will be fielding a full slate of candidates at this year's Surrey County Council elections on May 4.

Serving councillors Mary Lewis, Rachael Lake, Tony Samuels and Mike Benninson will be seeking re-election in Oxshott and Stoke D'Abernon, Walton, Walton South and Oatlands, Claygate and Hinchley Wood respectively. While John O'Reilly, Steve Bax, Peter Szanto and Bruce Finch are hoping to be elected county councillors for the first time in Hersham, West Molesey, East Molesey & Esher, and Dittons wards.

As well as campaigning on local issues, our candidates are standing on a Surrey Conservatives platform with commitments on delivering a strong economy, great schools and investing in local infrastructure like roads, in spite of it being a time of austerity.

Under the Conservatives, Surrey's economy has grown by 20% in four years and unemployment is low. Our 400 schools are some of the best in the country with 93% rated 'good' or 'outstanding'. We have spent millions on extra classrooms and have further plans to create 11,000 more school places by 2021. We will ensure every child has a school place.

A major challenge facing Surrey is to provide for a growing older population, with the cost of adult social care rising by around £24m each year. Under the leadership of David Hodge, Surrey Conservatives have showed we are prepared to fight for the funding we need for social care.

Look out for a manifesto from your local candidate in the lead up to the election.
