For the first time since 1974 there was an unopposed election in Elmbridge on Friday as Cllr Christine Elmer, the Cabinet Member for Social Affairs, was re-elected to the Walton South seat she has held since 2006. No other candidates had registered to stand against her and there will now be no borough election in that ward on 22 May.
Christine, pictured right, said “Although I take it as a huge compliment, I’m disappointed I don’t get to fight my own election campaign, where issues such as Weylands would have featured prominently. I would urge Walton South voters to still go to the polling station and vote in the European elections on 22 May.”
