Our commitment to the Green Belt

Elmbridge is estimated to need up to 9,000 new homes by 2035. Conservatives believe future housing demand can be met without bulldozing our precious Green Belt.

Conservative group leader, Councillor James Browne, is pictured at Knowle Hill in Stoke d’Abernon. This is a beautiful
part of our borough which is one of the natural areas that could be lost forever if Liberal Democrat and Residents Association administration at Elmbridge Borough Council releases Green Belt land for development as part of the Council's ‘Local Plan’ to meet future housing requirements.

Previously, in 2016, the then LD/RA Cabinet selected the release of three large tracts for development as its preferred option. This provoked at outcry at public consultation. When a Conservative administration took control of the Council in 2018-19 we introduced consultation Option 4 which set out how around 5,000 homes could be delivered in the existing built area and brownfield sites. At the most recent public consultation 85% of respondents agreed with us and said they did not want to see our Green Belt built on.

Since the May 2020 local elections have been postponed due to the coronavirus, the Conservatives are unlikely to have an opportunity before May 2021 to take back control of Elmbridge Council. Therefore we will be calling on the Administration to honour the public consultation in the Local Plan. We want to ensure that the one, two-and-three-bedroom homes we need for young families, key workers and the vulnerable are provided without the loss of Green Belt. Furthermore will are calling on the Administration sure that new housing is fairly distributed across our communities, avoiding ugly high rises and recognising the need for new infrastructure.

Our Green Belt is beautiful and also vital. It prevents London sprawl, provides a buffer between our localities and
functions as the green lungs of our Borough, soaking up pollution and helping to combat climate change. Please support your Conservative councillors and candidates to help ensure that beautiful parts of our borough are kept safe for generations to come

NHS Cash Boost & More Police On Streets

Dom outside Walton Hospital with local councillors

The strength of the economy is enabling the government to increase NHS funding by £33.9 billion by 2023.

Dominic Raab is working with local doctors and clinicians to make sure that cash boost reaches key Elmbridge services – GP practices, community hospitals, mental health services and social care.

The government is also recruiting 20,000 extra police. Dom is liaising with our local police team to make sure we see extra police on the streets in Elmbridge. Local police worked hard to reduce burglaries and tackle drugs - and the extra officers will help keep crime low.
